Having read Rob Thorn's recent report of American Pipits at Battelle Darby Creek in the Darby Wetlands area, I stopped by this afternoon and surely enough a flock of 50 were on the burned prairie fields between the Teal Trail and Big Darby Dr. They were rather shy but the burned ground made them easier than normal to spot.

Also in the area, woolly bear caterpillars were numerous on the roads, and along Gardner Rd just west of Battelle Darby Creek I saw my first Rough-Legged Hawk of the season, soaring and hovering at medium altitude above the fields.

Good birding!
