The Loggerhead Shrike was apparently first found on the Adams County CBC on
December 14. It has been seen since by several other Adams County
residents, none of whom regularly post birds on the internet. It was still
in the same spot at 12:30 today, so there’s a good chance it will stick
around.

From West Union, go east on Ohio 125 about two miles, and turn right onto
Poplar Ridge. At the T intersection, go left, staying on Poplar Ridge. At
the next T, turn left again onto Malone, and keep going left to stay with
Malone. Just after you pass under some transmission lines, there is an
abandoned house on your left. The bird has been on the wires and the manure
pile just past the house. There is no actual address here, but 1000 Malone,
West Union in your GPS will get you there. Although the house is abandoned,
the fields are part of a farm, so stay on the road.

Two Northern Mockingbirds were also present for comparison. Northern was
ruled out by the shorter bill, wider mask, and clear breast with no hint of
streaking.

Note to self: charge your camera battery before chasing a rare bird.
