There was a snowy owl, jaeger spp. and a northern shrike at the Lake Metroparks, Lake Erie Bluffs Park this morning.
The northern shrike was moving all around the large field west of the end of Lane Road. the owl was on the east slope of the Lake County landfill. It was visible, but distant, from the south end of the bluffs. The owl was an immature bird. The jaeger scared up some gulls west of the bluffs. There were several hundred gulls visible from the split rail fence in the northwest corner of the Lane Road field. I did not have a scope to look through the gulls, but I did see several great black-backed gulls.
Other birds of note were 6 flyby common redpolls, 2 golden-crowned kinglets and a northern mockingbird. Last year there were dozens of robins, today only 2. For directions, go to lakemetroparks.com.
