On South Bass Island, we have been enjoying a little bit of warmth-out of the zero range and the birds have been out at the feeders. MaryAnn McCann reported 24 northern cardinals at her feeder. Large groups of American Robins have been reported all over the island feeding on whatever crabapples or berries are left.

Today, I got a new feeder bird on the ground where all the seed had fallen from the feeders at my home. A horned lark!

The only open water around the island is under docks where bubblers are running. The bubblers around the Boardwalk Docks produced:

2 Canvasback
4 Redheads
12 Red-breasted Mergansers
6 Common Goldeneye
8 Herring Gull
1 Black-backed Gull

Numerous bald eagles and a red-tailed hawk have been enjoying fish guts on the ice left by fisherman at the South Bass Island State Park and west shore ice ramp.
