This afternoon in the center of the campus of the University of Akron, 77 Canada geese are feeding on the very short grass where the deep snow has melted above a steam tunnel. Some are seated at the edge of a busy sidewalk, paying no attention to the crowds of humans walking by. They have devoured almost all the greenery, and some are probing into the snow along the borders of the cleared area in search of more. A few are standing as they feed, but most are sitting on the ground and eating everything within reach, then walking a few steps and sitting down again.

They appear to seek safety in numbers, as they are clustered in a small area, while a nearby green grassy patch has no geese in it.

Has anyone else observed geese finding food in odd locations during this cold wave?
