My husband and I did another "drive-by" birding trip along the river by Carillon Park (I believe that road is called Carillon Blvd.) and off of Veterans Pkwy. The gulls were mostly by Carillon Park but there were ducks and geese off of Veterans Parkway.

We did not see any adult black-backed gulls but the two good-sized juveniles we saw before were there. I am not as skilled a birder as Eric, at least where gulls are concerned, and while I have no trouble recognizing adult black-backed gulls who do tend to stand out in a crowd, I have trouble telling the juveniles of the lbbg, the gbbg and the herring gulls apart.

By Carillon Park: the 2 larger juv. gulls, lots of ring-billed gulls, herring gulls, mallards, Canada geese including some smaller ones that may or may not be cacklings, and 1 great blue heron.

By Veteran's Pkwy: Scaups (not sure if greater or lesser; leaning towards greater as the males seemed to have very white sides), more Canada geese, mallards, coots, another great blue heron, common goldeneyes (one pair and another group of several females), 1 male common merganser (did not see the female this time), and a few mostly flying gulls, including one herring gull that came close enough for me to see the red on its bill.
