I saw what may be the first record Great Black-backed Gull for Muskingum Co. this morning at Dillon State Park, on the ice in the beach area with about 400 other gulls. The one I IDed was an adult, but there may have been immatures as well. (I’m not good at immature gull ID.) Earlier this week, I had my first ever Licking Co. Great Black-backed Gull at Buckeye Lake, North Shore Park. Photographs appeared on FaceBook of multiple GBBGs in Tuscarawas Co., and a well-respected birder is checking reports in Stark Co. as well.

So, get out there and check your local landfills and reservoirs. This appears to be the year of the Great Black-backed Gull inland in Ohio.
