Incredible numbers of large gulls are roosting in downtown Canton in and around an industrial area just north of the intersection of I77 & Rt 30. Viewing spots will fluctuate but last night Ben Morrison, Terry & Barb Sponseller, & I
watched where Prospect Ave SW hits the RR tracks and at a ball field
called West Park near the corner of 9th St SW and Schroyer. Very early morning and
evening seem to be the only times the birds are around en masse but
tonight's totals were 136 Great Black-backed, 2 Lesser Black-backed, 7
Glaucous, 5 Iceland, and 1 Thayer's. We probably were only able to sort
through about half of the 5000 large gulls that were in the air at once. More details are on the Bobolink Area of Ohio page.
