The bird was perched on a telephone pole along Warner Road about 500 feet west of Canal Road at about 11:20 am. I spotted the bird from the bike/path pedestrian bridge over Warner Road. I had a good enough view to determine that it was a Merlin and not a Kestrel. I was able to walk down from the bridge, cross a parking lot and walk across Warner Road for a better view. All the time the bird was nice and calm.

I originally walked north from the small parking lot under the I-480 bridge. When I first left my car I saw a peregrine falcon perched on a billboard way up above the I-480 roadway. The bird did a little hop off the billboard and did a dive after some pigeons. It wasn't quite a stoop. The falcon's wings weren't tucked against its sides. But, it was still an impressive straight shot at the pigeons. I did not see the results of the dive. The birds went behind some buildings just north of the bridge.
