This time of year, to keep peace with First Energy, we brush hog
a section of the power lines that cut through our fields.
It is always a cause for a lot of grumbling
around here about timing, and the returning birds.

But on the upside, the freshly mowed easement is an attractive
hunting ground for raptors, and today for a short eared owl.
The owl was perched in a crab apple tree, right at the edge of the
easement. Although I was on the other side of the easement, he
was watchful and moved away into the brush and tree covered
fields towards the road, where I lost track of him.
