Two black vultures chomping on a road-kill along Gass road near the clear
fork reservoir office this a.m. When I got out of my car the vultures ran
away from me instead of flying. The one bird was making some sounds I had
not heard from a black vulture before. Probably aggressive/territorial
sounds. These are probably the pair that is believed to nest in a nearby
shed. So far have not been able to confirm that due to the property owners
work schedule.
One adult lesser black-backed gull at clear fork reservoir in front of the
spillway. Seen from the sail boat club along route 97. The reservoir
remains mostly frozen today with a little open water at the marina &
Orweiler road area & a few beautiful male common mergansers.
Good birding
John Herman
