Hello birders, This past Sunday, I briefly observed a Common Raven feeding on a deer carcass on the property of the Walmart Distribution Center in Wintersville, OH along OH-43. I was not birding at the time, but just driving by. This is the third raven sighting I have made in Jefferson County in the past few months. Last fall I had one at the Fernwood State Forest and in January, a bird was by Emperial, along the Ohio River.
I am originally from Iowa, and have been birding for over a decade. I have seen lots of ravens in my travels from Alaska, to Minnesota, to Colorado. The trend I am seeing here reflects that perhaps the raven is getting a foothold here in eastern Ohio once again! I know they nested in 2008, so it isn't too far fetched to believe they are still around.

Good Birding,

Tucker J. Lutter
Steubenville, OH
