Bird Walks around Athens

Athens Area Birders invite you to come out this Spring and discover our wild local bird life! With experienced guides and a pair of (rental) binoculars, we explore special areas and habitats to find and learn about their avian inhabitants.

The walks are limited to 15 participants. For questions and to register, email [log in to unmask] with the subject “Bird Walk”; a confirmation will be sent back to you.

Next walk:

Sunday, 22 March 2015. Nightfall at The Ridges. We meet at 7:30 pm at the parking lot below the Compost Facility, to the right off Dairy Lane/Blackburn Road, 500 yards past Dairy Barn. We will walk up to Radar Hill (20 min) and quietly await the American Woodcocks to start their “peent” calls and aerial displays after sunset. Return by 9:00 pm. Rain will cancel, but mist or light drizzle won’t. Guide: Stefan Gleissberg, joined by Phil Cantino.

Upcoming walks:

Sat, 11 Apr 2015. Spring walk along the Hocking

Sat, 25 April 2015. Wildcat Hollow

Sun, 10 May 2015. Morning walk on The Ridges

Thursday, 14 May 2015, , 7:00 pm. “Birdwatching in Athens - where and how to enjoy our local avifauna” Athens Public Library

Sun, 14 June 2015. Wayne National Forest Breeding Birds
