This is not related to an Ohio sighting, but the news is so stunning, I
figured people would be interested. A new hawk watch location has been set
up at the tip of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan, which is a natural funnel
point for raptor migration, with birds that follow the eastern shore of
Lake Michigan and the western shore of Lake Huron converging here before
dispersing into the Upper Peninsula and Canada.

Reports posted on the UPBirders listserve from the fairly new Mackinac
Straights Hawk Watch have huge numbers of Golden Eagles going over, with 70
on March 17, and 79 today! The big question is - where are all these eagles
coming from? Surely there are not this many wintering Golden Eagles in
Michigan and Ohio, so what's going on? Are there hawk watches going on in
Ohio this early at Lake Erie that might catch some of this movement?

Good birding,
