HOLD THE DATE- CONVERSATIONS ON CONSERVATION
MARCH 29 - 2:00-4:00 pm AT WEST GEAUGA LIBRARY, Geauga County Ohio
Harvey Webster of Cleveland Museum of Natural History will join us in our third program on conservation. (He is bringing a few LIVE birds of prey)."Romancing the Eagle: The Recovery of the Bald Eagle in Ohio"
At the time of European contact in the 1600s, the Bald Eagle enjoyed a range that encompassed most of North America. Yet over the intervening years it endured such persecution, habitat loss and degradation that by the 1970s its breeding range had contracted to only a handful of states and its numbers had withered. The banning of certain pesticides, intensive management, vigorous protection and enforcement of endangered species laws, as well as the conservation of wetlands have brought about a renaissance of this noble raptor. In this illustrated program we will chronicle the history of the Bald Eagle in Ohio and celebrate its return.Harvey Webster has been affiliated with the Cleveland Museum of Natural History for over 50 years and currently serves as Director of Wildlife Resources and Honorary Co-chair of the Museum's Centennial Campaign.
Sandy Buckles "We must strive to touch the land gently and care for it as true stewards that those who follow us may see our mark on the land was one of respect and love....."( From a trail marker at Settler's Cove, near Ketchikan , Alaska.)Robert B. Oetting
