That is an idea that works for feeders as well.  I used it with string and
wire on the feeders.  original designs for it used fishing line..but birds
like Goldfinches got caught up in it, so I used a thicker wire.  I forget
why it works, I think it has to do with Hose Sparrows don't like being
around things that hang down.  Maybe someone here knows why it works.
