As my wife and I were driving to my parents' house for our traditional Wednesday pizza night (although this time subs were substituted), we noticed a group of geese flying over my parents' property. There were about 5 Canada Geese and one smaller bird with them; I asked my wife what she thought and she suggested it was a Cackling Goose. When we arrived I retrieved a binocular from the trunk of the car and walked over to where I could see into the pasture; the geese had landed and I immediately saw an unexpected but quite welcome blue phase Snow Goose. This is in York Township, about 4 miles west of York Center.
For those interested in non-bird wildlife, I have recently been finding some salamanders and other amphibians on our property: http://blakemathys.com/herping.html
