For two weeks, I've been aware of a red-bellied woodpecker calling a female to a hole in a dead elm next to my home.  I thought they were all set, maybe even beginning to lay eggs.  But this afternoon another male seems to have arrived.  I've been working at my desk for the past hour -- the window looks out into my backyard and the two males swoop across my field of view every couple of minutes.  They'll be exhausted at the end of this day.  In the meantime, the female has been sitting by quietly, visiting the suet, while the males are chasing and chasing and chasing!!   No way to know which male is chasing which male but they'll be exhausted at the end of this afternoon.  Fun to watch though it feels like it might be a bit dangerous to go out into the yard with all the swooping?!? Mary HueyWilloughby, Ohio
