Claire Johnson and I birded a few hours at both my uncle's and my mom's property today. Birds were few and far between but we did get a northern Mockingbird where I have not had it during the breeding bird surveys.
The only chickadees we found were Carolinas. The phoebes are already back at their usual nesting spots. We saw all the woodpeckers except the hairy and red headed. The field sparrow is back calling in the same shrub where it has nested in the past years. We had a brown creeper calling and working a shag barked hickory.
