I spent the last 2 days scouting areas along these two creeks in the southern suburbs of Columbus. Yesterday I worked riparian pockets in 3-Creeks Park, from Heron Pond up to Oxbow. Today I hiked areas along Blacklick Creek, from Cruiser Pond up through the Chatterton greenbelt. Loads of residents, including a few unusual ones. These areas are all good migrant funnels, but there were very few migrants; migration here seems to be essentially over. Notables included:

Green Herons - 1 near Heron Pond yesterday, another at Cruiser Pond today
Great Egret - 1 was fishing in the Chatterton Greenbelt ponds today
Red-headed Woodpecker - 1 adult has returned to the snags of Cruiser Pond, an old nesting area

Flycatchers - Many WoodPewees and Great Crested Flycatchers (these are mostly riparian areas), along with smaller #s of Acadians, Willows, and E.Kingbirds. 1 Yellow-bellied was a late migrant at the Groveport Blacklick bikepath.

Vireos - LOTS of Warbling & Red-eyed. Also had a singing White-eyed today at Chatterton Greenbelt
Thrushes - widespread Wood Thrushes, showing how these scrubby areas are maturing. No Swainson's or Gray-cheeks
Mimids - Catbirds were abundant in all areas, while Thrashers were scarce (1 was at Chatterton today)
Cedar Waxwings - pairs and small flocks very common now in nearly all of these areas.

Warblers - Yellows, Yellow-throateds, and Common Yellowthroats widespread, in nearly every area. The only Parulas were 2 singing at Chatterton. The only obvious migrants were a Wilson's at Heron Pond yesterday and a female Blackpoll at Oxbow. A singing Yellow-br.Chat at Chatterton may have been a prospective resident.

Buntings & Grosbeaks - Indigos were very common, but Rose-br.Grosbeaks were rarer, with singing birds only at Oxbow and the Groveport Blacklick bikepath.

Sparrows - Field Sparrows common in the managed fields along Alum Creek, but getting scarce in the overgrown ones along Blacklick Creek. Fewer Chipping and no Savannah or Grasshopper Sparrows as well, highlighting the disappearing shortgrass.

Icterids - plenty of Baltimore Orioles (expected), but Orchard Orioles also at most spots (pleasant surprise), another indication of the shrub growth in many of these areas.
