I was in Cleveland Metroparks West Creek Reservation on Thurs. and

heard a disturbance in the tall cottonwood trees near the picnic shelter.

I saw a female Baltimore Oriole attacking a Common Grackle who appeared to be trying to get at the nest of the Oriole. The Oriole was dive bombing the grackle and making loud calls. She was really putting up a fight but I could see she was getting tired and the grackle was getting closer to the nest.

When out of nowhere an orange and black, feathered "bullet" came flying through the branches and attacked that grackle. The grackle made a bee line out of there with the male Oriole right behind it. A minute later the male Oriole came back and joined the female near the nest.

Yeah for the Orioles!
