Yesterday, I did a breeding bird census in Wooster Memorial Park, a 300+A
park west of Wooster. The habitat there is mostly mature woods, but there
is a nice riparian corridor that runs through the middle and two areas of
mixed field habitat.

In the largest field area, called "the farm field", I heard a Henslow's
sparrow calling from within the tall grass. It then perched above the grass
on a dead stem and was observed well. That is the first I have seen in the
Wooster area.

Among the 37 species verified, I also heard or saw seven species of warbler
(yellow, yellowthroat, blue-winged, cerulean, ovenbird, Louisiana
waterthrush and hooded). Other noteworthy species were  barred owl,
yellow-throated vireo, scarlet tanager, and rose-breasted grosbeak. Randy
