A congratulations goes out to Josh and Tonya Wengerd for discovering a Dickcissel bonanza, just prior to last weekend. Josh and Tonya, area residents of the nearby town of Dalton, found what I believe to be the largest concentration, and easiest to view, Dickcissel colony I have ever seen. A thank you from my wife Denise and I, also goes out to the birding couple, for sharing their sighting with Denise on Saturday, while she was the registrar at Friday and Saturday's successful "Time And Optics" 3rd Annual Optics Fling. On our way home from "The Fling" Saturday afternoon, we were pleasantly surprised with what we found; at least six males sitting along the fence line on the north edge of the road. The site location is east of the town of Dalton, south of US30 between Eckard Road and West Lebanon Road on Wecht Road (T-71). The celebrity birds are found all along the north side of the road, sitting on the fence and fence posts, singing up a storm. There is no need to ever get out of your vehicle!
