Yesterday, a juvenile Red-Headed Woodpecker came to our suet feeders.  For weeks we have watched the adults eat and then carry away pieces.  This was the last of the locals young woodpeckers to show.
In July we saw at least two young Pileated Woodpeckers have a tough time with the vertical suet holders.  We added a horizontal feeder until they could maneuver better.  We also had four young Northern Flickers work on the ground around a tree stump.  We always have plenty of Downy Woodpeckers.  We have a pair of Hairy Woodpeckers year-round but we are never sure if we have seen young.
