This afternoon, I made the 3-hour journey to Conneaut in hopes of seeing the Piping Plover that has been sticking around. I arrived around 2 pm, and during my nearly 6-hour stay, I saw it and more! The plover, as others have realized, was very easy to find on the sandspit as the beach was swarming with people. It allowed for very close encounters and did not seem the least bit intimidated by people. As the day went on, 11 other shorebirds made appearances - Willet, Greater and Lesser Yellowlegs, Stilt Sandpiper, Semipalmated Sandpiper, Semipalmated Plover, Wilson's Snipe, Least Sandpiper, Baird's Sandpiper, Spotted Sandpiper, and Killdeer. There were reports of a Sanderling and a pair of Red Knots circulating from earlier in the morning, however neither of these birds made an appearance for me during my stay.

Bird on!
