we get all the same birds commonly year round at our yard feeders (suburban
Summit County):
titmouse, chickadee, cardinal, blue jay, nuthatch, downy and red-bellied
woodpecker,
house finch, gold finch, mourning dove, house sparrow, crow, starling,
occasional Carolina wren.

plus robin, house wren, grackle, and chipping sparrow in summer, and junco
in winter.
this early summer we got several catbirds.

sadly, almost never a hairy woodpecker, and never a red-headed, or a
creeper, oriole, blue bird,
redpoll, crossbill, siskin, etc.....did see our first yard sapsucker this
year!

among the several spring migrants: all the thrushes, thrasher, rose
breasted grosbeak, white throated
and white crowned sparrows. but almost never a warbler.

always on the lookout for a new yard species.

I have always guessed that they move to the woods to teach their young to
forage in a natural setting.

Subject: [Ohio-birds] Feeder Birds

Just curious:

In the winter, we have titmice, chickadees, finches, woodpeckers,
nuthatches etc at the feeder. In the summer it is mostly the goldfinches
and woodpeckers.

What happens to the titmice, nuthatches and chickadees? I don't believe
they migrate. Are they just getting food elsewhere and don't need the
feeder?

Thanks for any insight
