I am always fascinated by large flock of birds…especially the noisy gatherings of
grackles in the woods. Today, at home, I saw the first congregaton of grackles this fall,
probably only 200 or so birds, but even that modest number transforms my
quiet, empty little forest into a raucous concert hall. On the ground they
inspect every cranny and toss every leaf in their search for food. On the wing
their songs and sounds reverberate through the canopy. I hope the flocks build.
Some years there have been as many as 2000 birds streaming through the area.

Also had a little warbler movement in the fields and shrubby borders. 7 species
which is a good day here. Quite the opposite of the blackbirds, I picked them
out one by one, never seeing more than two of any species.
Tennessee, Cape May, Nashville, Magnolia, Redstart,
Wilsons and the resident C. Yellowthroats.
