For the second year in a row now, at this time of year (late summer, fall on the birding calendar) I just observed a decent sized flock (50-75) of Ring-billed Gulls circling and catching insects in flight.

The birds were working over a cemetery in Stark county near Belden Village Mall and slowly making their way east. I was able to watch birds lunge toward flying insects and snatch them, bringing to mind watching flycatchers do their work, without the return to a roost part of the behavior.

I was not able to get an idea of what they were feeding on, but I would think it would be large enough to pay off on the effort.

Just thought I would share this in case others have seen it or were interested in observed behaviors.
