This time of year, when chimney swifts impress us with their evening
gyrations, often brings to mind the work of Ralph Dexter, a scientist at
Kent State University, whose work over many years on the chimney swift
has informed us all. A search for "kent state university chimney swift"
will lead to innumerable pronouncements from the University's legal
offices about the sanctity of their various logos, but you can find a
representation in the list. Actually, it is more convenient to search a
web site about swifts at http://www.wiswifts.org/ , from a scientist
who learned about swifts in Cleveland.
Look for one of Dexter's articles from the Ohio Journal of Science at
http://www.ksualumni.org/s/401/index.aspx?sid=401&gid=1&pgid=260&cid=1687&ecid=1687&crid=0&calpgid=15&calcid=1006
