Dear Friends and Colleagues;

We are now almost a month away from the third annual Ohio Avian Research Conference, and the excitement is building.

We have been accepting proposals for presentations, both oral and posters, for the third annual Ohio Avian Research Conference.  Time slots for oral presentations will fill up quickly, so don’t wait to send in your title and abstracts.  The deadline to submit an oral presentation is September 30th.  The deadline to submit a poster abstract is Sunday, October 11th.

•To submit presentations please e-mail me with a title, abstract, author information, and specify whether it is an oral or poster presentation.  Oral presentations are only 15 minutes long. You can see some preliminary oral presentations already listed on the conference website:  http://tuckercasey.wix.com/aacri-birds#!oarc2015/c1wpg

As a reminder, this year’s conference will once again be held at Denison University in Granville, Ohio on Saturday, October 17th.

The Ohio Avian Research Conference brings together Ohio ornithologists from a variety of backgrounds, including academic professionals, governmental agencies, non-profits, students and citizen scientists, to share new discoveries and information with one another, as well as with interested individuals in a fun, casual learning environment.

The keynote speaker this year is Dr. Jay Mager of Ohio Northern University who will be speaking about his work with Common Loon vocalizations and territorial behaviors. Dr. Mager's work on communication and territoriality in Common Loons has been featured in numerous magazines like American Scientist (https://wpiper1.files.wordpress.com/2013/02/american-scientist.pdf), and websites like Journey North and CornellCast (http://www.cornell.edu/video/loon-territoriality).

Additionally this will be one of the first places where you'll be able to learn about some of the preliminary results of Ohio's 2nd Breeding Bird Atlas.

•You can view details from last year’s conference at this site:
http://tuckercasey.wix.com/aacri-birds#!oarc2014/cd8o

•Registration is also open as of noon today (August 17th).  This year student registration is just $10.00, and non-student registration is just $15.00.  This is due to the generous support of our conference supporters, including the US Fish & Wildlife Service, The Nature Conservancy (TNC) of Ohio, East Central Ohio Audubon Society.  The conference is sponsored by the American Ornithologist’s Union (AOU).

•To register you can visit the conference website and click on the registration button, which will open a new window through which you can choose your boxed lunch option.  http://tuckercasey.wix.com/aacri-birds#!oarc2015/c1wpg

•The deadline to register early is midnight on Sunday, October 11th. After October 11th prices increase to $20.00 for students and $30.00 for non-students, and no guarantee of a boxed lunch.

•I’m seeking five volunteers to help on the day of the conference with check-in, assisting presenters, guiding attendees, etc.  In exchange for volunteering I’ll comp your registration fees and your meals that day.  I’ll take the first five people who contact me for this opportunity.  I ask that you not be a presenter.

•If you, your organization, or business would like a table to display information or products, please contact me for details.

•I apologize if you receive multiple copies of this announcement, but please help advertise this conference opportunity by sharing with your colleagues and friends that you think might be interested.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.

I look forward to seeing you all in October!

Sincerely,

Casey Tucker
