October 9th- the Grand Lake St. Mary's Fish Hatcheries were FULL of shorebirds today, plus there were some other good birds around.
The eBird List (I'm probably missing a few things):
http://ebird.org/ebird/view/checklist?subID=S25354462

Highlights:
At least 3 Western Sandpipers (good photos, rusty wings and cap, slightly down curved bill)
At least 40 White-rumped Sandpipers
90-150 Semipalmated Sandpipers
1 Baird's Sandpiper
1 Greater Yellowlegs
1 Black-bellied Plover
Several Pectoral Sandpipers
1 Forster's Tern (flyover)
2 Great Egrets
1 Nelson's Sparrow-good looks, no photos
8 Northern Pintail (3 males, 5 females)

This is by far the best day I've ever had for migrants at this location. While I didn't have any rarities, there were a few birds I don't get often, mainly the Nelson's Sparrow and WESA's.

All shorebirds are relatively close and easy to see. Scope not needed, but it would be helpful.
This location is kind of remote, but is worth going to.
Also, on the west side of the lake, Eurasian Collared-Doves can be found at the grain mill in Celina.

I've had everything from Avocets to Laughing Gulls at the GLSM Fish Hatcheries. Anything can happen here!
