The Columbus Audubon field trip to Hoover was able to brave the wind & light drizzle, getting out before the real rain hit (around 1:00 PM). We stopped at Oxbow Island, Area M, and the Plumb Rd bikepath before calling it a morning. The Ruff could not be relocated at the Area N mudflats while we were there, between 10:00 =- 11:00, but the flats are subnstantially bigger, which might allow the bird to move to other areas around the north Hoover shoreline. (We checked the Wiese Rd flats, but that are was so wind-blown that it held few birds other than a large flock of foraging Tree Swallows. There were still plenty of migrants around, and the list included:

Herons - 4 Great Egrets were at Oxbow, 8 at AreaM, and 2 more along the WIese Rd shore. Oxbow Island still had a late Green Heron.

Waterfowl - Wood Ducks were at most stops, and Area M still had 7 Green-winged Teal

Shorebirds - Area N's mudflats were still quite birdy, having 20+ Kildeer, 2 Semipalmated Plovers, 12 L.Yellowlegs, 2 Pectoral Sandpipers, 2 Semipalmated Sandpipers, 1 Dunlin, and 1 Long-billed Dowitcher

woodpeckers - no Red-headed, but sapsuckers were widespread, topped by 3-4 along the Wiese Rd bikepath

Flycatchers - the only ones were 3 E.Phoebes on Oxbow Island

Swallows, Swifts - Tree Swallows were abundant over the surface of Hoover, with 500+ between the 3 stops. A few Chimney Swifts were along the shore at Area M and Wiese Rd

Kinglets - both species were found, with Ruby-crowns at every stop

Thrushes - surprisingly, no thrushes were located at these 3 stops

Cedar Waxwings - flocks of waxwings were all along the Wiese rd bikepath, perhaps 200 total

Warblers - most unusual was a late Yellow-throated at Oxbow Island, but we also found Parula, Tennessee, Magnolias, Black-thr,Greens, Chesnut-sided, Cape Mays, Yellow-rumped (most abundant at all 3 stops), Palm, AmRedstart, and Ovenbird

Sparrows - nothing but White-throated and Song, but they were widespread

Other Migrants - Rose-br.Grosbeaks were at both Oxbow and Wiese Rd
