A Purple Sandpiper was viewed extraordinarily well on today's BSBO boat trip. The bird was foraging on the outer Cleveland breakwall. The several-miles-long breakwall is one of the best sites in the state for this species but is rarely accessible. **The three best on-shore spots for scoping the breakwall include**: the old coast guard station pier at Wendy Park/Whiskey Island, the East 9th street pier (best) that juts out beyond the Rock Hall, and East 55th marina. At all of these sites, scopes are necessary, and Purple Sandpipers have been found from in the past with patience and a keen eye, and repeated scanning.
