The Ohio Cardinal carried an article article (Vol 10 #1, Spring 1987, pp
1-4) by co-editor Ed Pierce about a brambling seen in Bath, Ohio by many
during April of 1897. Well over a hundred observers saw it in the period
March 31-4/7/1987. It was at the time the fourth Lower 48 spring
record. Ed looks into the historical records, describes its known
migratory routes east and west in the continent, etc. This four-page
article is very informative, but too long for this forum, and I could
not find this issue in the on-line collection at the OOS site. I hope
they will make this and many other issues available on their web site.
Larry Rosche wrote the brambling up for the Cleveland Bird Calendar
83:19-20 in a shorter article, which is available online at
http://www.kirtlandbirdclub.org/uploads/5/3/5/0/53501147/cleveland_bird_calendar_vol083_no2_1987.pdf
