Jon, Kent and Ben, thanks for doing this.

Laura Keene and I as well as Mr. Greenburg (spelling?) from Minnesota did
much the same on Thursday. Mr. Greenburg got into the American Landfill
near Waynesburg and the Republic Landfill along I-77 near Bolivar but the
only way to get in is to be with an employee and in a truck not optimum for
gull watching. Mr Greenburg said there were fewer gulls at the American
Landfill than the thousands at the Bolivar/Republic Landfill. When I
arrived at the American Landfill near Waynesburg, a manager told me the
gull is not there and that a lawyer named Greenburg from Minnesota had
looked and had not found it. (Laura and I were not aware that Mr Greenburg
was also checking landfills.). This manager told me proudly that they have
a program to discourage gulls. So, I am thinking that the American Landfill
is not the best choice for looking. Laura Keene got tied up with an overly
helpful person at the Minerva Landfill (only industrial/ construction not
of use to gulls) also near Waynesburg who gave her more information about
landfills and transfer stations than she needed or wanted. When Laura and I
checked out the Republic Landfill near Bolivar, there was a constant stream
of garbage trucks entering and leaving. This was about 1:00 - 2:00 pm so
where one tries to watch for the stream of gulls is important, and I'm sure
that Jon, Kent and Ben have considered this.

For those of us travelling a long distance, it would be helpful to know if
the Bolivar Landfill operates on weekends or if they cover the active
working locations in the landfill on weekends. This may determine whether
the gulls fly south to this landfill or another location on weekends.
Thanks again to Jon, Ben and Kent for their help.
Jay
