The Cackling Goose that was present yesterday in Kettering is no longer there as of 7:50am, although a group of 25 Canada Geese is. I looked carefully to make sure I didn't miss it. No geese are present in the retention pond across the street or surrounding businesses.

Subject: [Ohio-birds] Cackling Goose Montgomery County 5:15pm

Hello all!

There was a single Cackling Goose among a group of ten Canada Geese located in a retention pond on Hempstead Station Road in Dayton, Ohio this evening at around 5:15pm. The pond is situated on the right side of the road, immediately past ACCO Brands back entrance (about a quarter mile past the Hempstead Station Road / David Road intersection.

All were present when I left, and I can't see why they wouldn't spend the night there. There have been multiple occasions when passing in the morning at 7:50-8:00am that geese were in the pond, although at times, they were absent. I'd suggest if you go, to visit closer to 7:15-7:30am, to increase your chances of seeing it.

There will be an eBird report with photo attached posted shortly.
