For anyone who may try for this bird, be aware that the ferry schedule is
very limited. Make sure you check before attempting to come over. I
believe that on Monday there is one ferry in the morning (leaves Marblehead
at 8:00 AM) and one in the evening (leaves the island at 4:30 PM). On
Tuesday there are no ferries to the island. Wednesday is the same schedule
as Monday. Thursday there are no scheduled ferries but I heard from an
islander that they may run the Wednesday schedule since there is no ferry
on Christmas but check with the Kelleys Island Ferry webpage or call their
office. You can fly several times per day from Port Clinton airport on
Griffing Air.

The bird was observed in the field next to (west) the Kelleys Island Winery
which is on Woodford Road. If you come by ferry, go west on Lakeshore
Drive to the first right (at the Kelley Mansion), turn right and go to
Woodford Road (about 1/4 mile), turn right, and drive about 1/3 mile to the
field just after the barn. This is before you get to the KI Winery. The
bird was observed in the pasture to the south feeding along the edges. It
was last observed behind the barn on the west side of the pasture. There
are cows in the pasture and please do not trespass on this property. The
fence is electric. View from the road.

If you fly, from the airport, it is about a mile south on Monaghan Road,
then right on Woodford Road, and continue about 1/2 mile west on Woodford
past the KI Winery to the pasture.

I will be on the island until Wednesday and will report if it is observed
again tomorrow, Tuesday or Wednesday. Northern Saw-whet Owls appear to
still be moving as we banded another tonight and had to close early due to
high winds.

Hopefully this makes sense...

Tom
