I went birding at Evans L. and Pine L. today, and was a little surprised to find both lakes 99% frozen over, with just a few open-water holes at each.  Evans L. held: snow goose (white morph), 135 Canada geese, 190 mallards, 5 hooded mergansers, 13 common mergansers, 5 ruddy ducks, pied-billed grebe, 2 double-crested cormorants, 2000 ring-billed gulls, and 100 herring gulls.  Pine L. had: 425 Canada geese, 6 tundra swans, 2 mute swans, 25 Am. black ducks, 185 mallards, 3 hooded mergansers, 45 common mergansers, great blue heron, 600 ring-billed gulls, 10 herring gulls, hairy woodpecker, and n. mockingbird.  Craig Holt, Lowellville
