Summit Lake in Akron was packed with waterfowl today. Birds were mostly on the eastern side of the lake. Plenty of Canada Geese, of which about a third of them flew out while I was there early A.M. Highlights include:

   - Canada Goose - 1,600+

   - Gadwall - 15 (8m,7f)
   - Mallard - 75+
   - Northern Shoveler - 20 (11m,9f)
   - Ring-necked Duck - 104 (96m,8f)
   - Lesser Scaup - 4 (3m,1f)
   - Bufflehead - 5 (1m,4f)
   - Hooded Merganser - 24 (9m,15f)
   - Ruddy Duck - 48
   - Pied-billed Grebe - 4
   - American Coot - 238
   - Ring-billed Gull - 372
   - Herring Gull - 4

Also had an adult Bald Eagle on the high-tension tower near Rt. 224 & Manchester Rd. Long Lake was mostly frozen and held some Canada Geese and 1 male Northern Flicker. North Reservoir was frozen. East Reservoir had plenty of geese near the island along with 2 Mute Swans, Mallards, Ring-necked Ducks, 6 Bufflehead and 7 Common Goldeneye along with more coots. Heading back towards home I had a lone male Wood Duck in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park in the Cuyahoga River at the Bath Rd. bridge.
