I visited several areas in and around Prairie Oaks Metropark (west of Columbus) this morning, including the nearby Kuhlwein wetlands of Battelle Darby MetroPark. The creek and deeper ponds of Darby Bend Lakes were open, but smaller ponds were frozen. The only significant waterfowl concentration was at Darby Bend lakes, with 80-100 Geese, 8 Mallards, 7 Gadwall, and 4 Ring-necked Ducks. Kuhlwein had no open water, but did have 2 Kestrels. Landbirds were fairly scarce, with Tree Sparrow flocks in a few areas, and little else besides small flocks of chickadees, titmice,&nuthatches.
