I hiked around Antrum Lake (north Columbus) this afternoon and found typical wintering birds in good supply. The pond was ice-free, but held no waterfowl, which was a big disappointment. The atypical landbirds were probably also winterers, just a bit scarcer:

Red-shouldered hawk - 1 adult perch-hunting along the NW shore, putting on a show for the walkers
BarredOwl - 1 calling in swamp forest off north end (Thanks for a tip from a dog-walker with good ears.)
E.Bluebirds - at least 5 at different spots along the Olentangy River here
CommonGrackle - 1 was along the river all by himself, which was quite unusual here.
