This afternoon at Geauga Park District's Walter C. Best Wildlife Preserve just south of the town of Chardon on Rt. 44: 3 common loons, about 40 ring-necked ducks, 5 lesser scaup, a dozen buffleheads, a pair of mallards and a pied-billed grebe. A male bluebird was holding off several tree swallows in competition for a nest box.
