I watched a tern species for most of 2 hours around a highway pond in
Wyandot County today. After taking notes then going home to get my
annotated checklist, Advanced Birding field guide and a fist full of other
books, I went back for some more looks. I believe it was Forster's tern.
Common tern is a possibility. Anyone have insight on this? My brain is
spinning!

Why Forster? All white below, not a lot of black in the wing tips, long
tail and more heavily forked. I could not see color in the bill or legs!
The only thing I saw was black. It stayed on a perch in the water (an old
sign or duck platform ) then flew and would go back. Anyway I read lots
about terns to day! I also did swallow and scalp study. Lots of fun! For
real.
