Walking the dog with snow on the ground at WC Best Wildlife Preserve early this evening, there was a common loon, 14 ring-necked ducks, 4 lesser scaup and a few Canada geese on the lake. The tree swallows that nest there were foraging just above the water's surface as swallows and swifts do in cold snaps. Along the stream below the lake were a small number of rusty blackbirds. The resident red-tailed hawk was also present.
