I'm passing this announcement along for birders who are looking for fun opportunities this spring, or just want to avoid the crowded craziness and commercialism of other birding events. I think many of you would be surprised by the little gems of habitat and cool birds that can be found in Butler County, and nearby Hamilton County.

Hello again, birders and nature lovers!Things do happen fast this time of year. Migrants are coming through and we need to get out in the field. With that in mind, MetroParks of Butler County again presents the Big Week of Birding in Butler County, co-sponsored this year by Audubon Miami Valley.Highlighting many of the outstanding properties within Butler MetroParks, the Big Week includes guided field trips to fourteen different sites. It begins on Saturday April 30 at the 4-Mile Creek / Davidson Woods MetroPark and concludes one week later at Voice of America and Gilmore. All of these field trips are free, but a Motor Vehicle Permit is required at MetroParks locations. The Permit is free to Butler County residents; for non-residents it’s $5/Daily, $10/annually. Note that registration is required for some of the trips.Each month between September and June, Audubon Miami Valley sponsors a field trip to a regional site of special interest.
