There were fewer shorebirds at Deer Creek today but two standouts are worth
mentioning. The lake level is rising and most of the shorebirds are now
best seen from Miller Park at the end of Miller Road off of Route 207. One
Long-billed Dowitcher and one American Golden Plover were seen along with
both yellowleg species, Pectoral Sandpipers, and a few Killdeer. American
Pipits were seen there and farther north where Deer Creek enters the lake.
Other birds seen in the deep pool area were Red-breasted Mergansers, Ruddy
Ducks, Ring-billed and Bonaparte's Gulls, Turkey and Black Vultures. Tree
Swallows were numerous.

In the wetland areas, the duck species seen were Ring-necked Ducks,
American Coots, Mallards, Northern Shovelers, Pied-billed Grebes, Gadwall,
Ruddy Ducks, American Wigeon, Blue-winged Teal, a few Lesser Scaup, 2
Redheads, 2 Canvasbacks. Over 50 Double-crested Cormorants were also seen.
