I went to Villa Angela and Wildwood Parks (part of Euclid Creek Reservation) on the east side of Cleveland today from 10:15am to 1:10pm.  These parks are on Lake Erie. I ran into Jeanne Hrenko who had been there earlier and had already found a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker and was seeing many Fox Sparrows.  I was at Villa Angela last Saturday and saw approx. five Fox Sparrows but today there were many more of them.  They were seen in multiple places away from the lake so there had to be at least 10 probably more.  Saw them in Villa Angela in the field area, many seen in the main entrance to the woods just north of the entrance to the field on both sides as you walk in from the road and saw some west of the grassy knoll area.  Many were singing.  It wasn't hard to find them and it really was amazing.  Last fall it was hard to find any here they all seemed to be at the Cleveland Lakefront Nature Preserve but in previous years they have been very reliable here.  Did not see any in Wildwood.  The places you would see them in Wildwood have had the bushes/brush eliminated.  After Jeanne left around 11:30 I was finally able to find a Sapsucker on the main path in Villa Angela that goes straight north to the lake (not to bathhouse) just before you leave the woods as one flew high up in the red pine trees and stayed a long time.  Here are some of the birds seen:
Red-breasted Mergansers 90+ in marinaDouble-crested Cormorants 15-seen flying into and out of marina areaRed-tailed Hawks - 2 hanging around both parks nowBelted KingfishersYellow-bellied Sapsucker 1Northern Flickers 5Eastern Phoebes 2Brown Creepers 5Carolina Wren 1Robins - manyNorthern Mockingbird 1 (east of marina)Eastern Towhee 1 maleBrown Thrashers 2Song Sparrows 8Dark-eyed Juncos 8Fox Sparrows 10Brown-headed Cowbirds fewRed-winged Blackbirds (not many Grackles here) seen no swallows here either
I then went to Sims Park in Euclid from 1:25pm to 2:43pm.  I did not use a scope so only saw about eight Common Goldeneye, two Great Black-backed Gulls, six Bonaparte's Gulls, and over 90 Red-breasted Mergansers and two female Lesser Scaup.  For land birds the park seemed somewhat empty it felt very wind swept today as there wasn't much protection from the winds.  I heard a Towhee and saw some Flickers but couldn't really find much.  As I started to drive out I heard Golden-crowned Kinglets in the pine trees along the entrance road so I backed up and re-parked the car near the playground and found two of them there could of been more.  Also saw one Painted Lady butterfly here.
I then went to Euclid Creek Reservation which runs from Highland Rd in Euclid to Anderson Rd in South Euclid.  I ended up at Quarry Picnic Area from 3:10pm to 4:10pm (which is closed for cars now which they do in the winter) so I parked at Kelly Picnic Area and walked in and by now it was snowing.  Once you get near the parking lot/trash can area and walk north on the driveway I heard Golden-crowned Kinglets (saw about three) then I went to the elevated hill on the left (west) which they don't take care of much anymore which is high above Euclid Creek and once you get up there I walked south to the end (so you can actually see the parking area) and started seeing at least eight FOX SPARROWS flying to a dense thicket/brush area and more were flying up from the south side of the hill and then I lost them.  It is hard to get much view up there once you see them you can't walk off the hill to relocate them.  On March 19th I only found one Fox Sparrow here.
