I was out this morning to several wetlands west and south of Wooster, Wayne
county, including Funk Bottoms and Wilderness Rd, and Messner Rd in the
Killbuck wildlife area. I saw nearly 50 species in 3 hours, so things are
picking up, though the waterfowl numbers are down quite a bit from a week
or two ago. Sightings included:

DC cormorant - 2
GB heron - 1
Canada goose - several
Black duck - 12
Mallard - 40
Pintail - 30
Blue-wing teal - 16
Green-wing teal - 15
Am. widgeon - 2
Shoveler - 18
Wood duck - 2 pair
Redhead - 18
Ring-necked duck - 60
Ruddy duck - 1 pair

Songbirds included FOY rough-winged swallow
Ponds northwest of Wooster had five loons and I had a yellow-bellied
sapsucker in my backyard. Randy Rowe, Wooster
