I birded the Lake Erie Bluffs in lake County from about 6:50-10:30 this morning.  There were a lot of birds moving both over the lake and overland.  In all, 83 species were seen.


On the lake highlights were little gull- 1 adult, Caspian tern-8, surf scoter- 1 adult male, great egret- 1.  Inland highlights were  northern flickers- 126, hermit thrush-15, brown thrasher-5, lapland longspur- 6, Louisiana waterthrush- 1, pine warbler-1, vesper sparrow- 1, fox sparrow- 12, song sparrow- 68, and purple finch 2.

Double-crested Cormorant  1744     There was a steady flow of cormorants heading east along the lake.  The largest flock consisted of over 220 birds.

Little Gull  1     An adult little gull passed by along the lake heading east.  the dark underwings, pale gray upperwings with a white trailing edge were noted.  the bird had an incomplete hood and had a fan shaped white tail.  it was travelling with Bonaparte's gulls.
