Migrants were virtually absent from these two migrant traps along the Scioto River south of downtown Columbus today. We spent an hour hiking around Scioto Audubon, then tooled down to spend another hour down at Scioto Grove. Both had plenty of resident birds, including:

Great Egrets - at least 2 were hanging around the bay at Scioto Audubon
Spotted Sandpipers - singles were along the river at each park; nesting is possible at either
Osprey - the old impound lot nest is active at Scioto Audubon, with 2 adults attending
Pileated Woodpecker - at least one was near the overlooks at Scioto Grove
Flycatchers - lots of Wood Pewees at both parks; Scioto Audubon also had 3-4 Willow Flycatchers in the fields north of the GIAC. Both parks also had 1-2 Great Crested Flycatchers and E.Kingbirds
Vireos - Scioto Audubon was heavy on the Warbling (5-6), while Scioto Grove majored in Red-eyed (5-6)
Swallows - both parks had good swallow diversity, with Tree, Rough-winged, Barn, & Cliff. Scioto Grove also had a few Banks foraging over the river.
Thrushes - the only ones around were 3-4 singing Wood Thrushes in the riparian woods at Scioto Grove
Mimids - Catbirds were abundant at both parks, while Grove also had a singing Brown Thrasher.
Warblers - both parks had singing Yellow Warblers and Prothonotaries, though Grove had 3-4 of the latter. Both parks also had singing Common Yellowthroats
Tanager - only one Scarlet was singing in the riparian forest at Scioto Grove
Grosbeaks&Buntings - Indigos were common at both sites, and Grove had 2 singing Rose-br.Grosbeaks
Sparrows - Fields were common at Scioto Grove, which also still had a singing Vesper Sparrow
Orioles - a few Baltimores were at both parks, and both also had singing Orchard Orioles
